A Hundred-Year Researching History on the Low Ionic Strength in Red Blood Cells: Literature Review

چکیده

This review article provides a critical survey of work from 1904 to 2003 on the effects low ionic strength in Red Blood Cells (RBCs) incubated media with impermeable sugars such as sucrose. In Gürber A washed RBCs different species isotonic sucrose solution eliminate outside ions order better analyse their intracellular composition; however, this approach was not feasible because substantial salt efflux cells. prominent feature loss is shrinking RBCs. central role understanding movements thereby new Donnan equilibrium anions. Experimental evidence has been given by Jacobs MH and Parpart AK 1933. medium two phases could be predicted: 1) very rapid anionic shift resulting an unequal distribution chloride hydroxyl anions both sides membrane 2) leakage salts 1940 Wilbrandt W assumed that positive potential line at 1977 Knauf PA, Fuhrmann GF, Rothstein S observed inhibition both, anion exchange also net efflux, incubation disulfonic stilbene derivates. At immediately obtained Anion Exchanger Protein (AEP). The opens least types cation pores or channels. Thereby conductivity pathway for anions, namely AEP, charge strength. AEP extensively blocked compounds. permeability ways cations through these channels are yet explored.

Transmembrane potential of red blood cells under low ionic strength conditions.

BACKGROUND/AIMS In a variety of investigations described in the literature it was not clear to what extent the transmembrane potential red blood cells (RBCs) was changed after the cells have been transferred into low ionic strength (LIS) solutions. Another open question was to find out how fast the transmembrane potential of RBCs in LIS solution will change and which final new equilibrium value...

Book Review: "Loving Literature. A Cultural History"

It is widely acknowledged that emotion is deeply embedded in literary criticism. Even when we aspire to scientific analysis and objectivity, we assume that we share a love of literature. Loving Literature is a deep and fascinating exploration of this important assumption. Literary critics and professors of literature are expected not only to know but also to love their work. In the case of prof...

Therapeutic Potency of Cord Blood Stem Cells in Patients with Cerebral Palsy: A Systemic Literature Review

Background: The main objective of this study was to systematically review the reported potency of cord blood stem cells in treating patients with neurological disorders such as cerebral palsy.  Methods: PubMed, Scopus, and Cochrane were searched thoroughly on September 2016 using the following search terms: “Umbilical cord blood stem cells” AND “development” AND “cerebral palsy” to find articl...

Effects of ionic strength on the regulation of Na/H exchange and K-Cl cotransport in dog red blood cells

Dog red cell membranes contain two distinct volume-sensitive transporters: swelling-activated K-Cl cotransport and shrinkage-activated Na/H exchange. Cells were prepared with intracellular salt concentration and weight percentage of cell water (%cw) varied independently by transient permeabilization of the cell membrane to cations. The dependence of transporter-mediated Na and K influxes upon %...

Iron stores in blood donors: A literature mini review

An increase in the frequency of blood donation among the donor population is liable to result in excessive iron loss and development of iron deficiency anemia. In the majority of blood banks, hemoglobin and/or hematocrit measurements are used as screening tests for the ability to donate blood even though iron stores may be depleted in donors with hemoglobin values above the arbitrarily defi...
